What is a Haiku?

Haiku is a kind of Japanese poetry. In English, Haiku most commonly consist of three lines that are 5 syllables, 7 syllables, then 5 syllables. For example:

November nightfall
the shadow of the headstone
longer than the grave
–Nick Avis

Twitter clients don't always support line breaks, so one way to indicate the break between lines is with a forward-slash:

Twitter welcomes us / yet has no home for line breaks / arise, forward-slash
